The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for conducting the UGC NET exam on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
UGC NET covers various subjects across humanities, social sciences, commerce, computer science, environmental sciences, and more. The subjects are categorized under Paper-I (General Paper) and Paper-II (Subject-specific).
The eligibility criteria include a Master's degree or equivalent in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for reserved categories), or appearing in the final year of the Master's degree.
UGC NET is typically conducted twice a year, usually in June and December.
UGC NET consists of two papers – Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is common for all candidates (50 questions). Paper-II consists of 100 questions based on the selected subject.
The UGC NET eligibility certificate for Assistant Professor is valid for a lifetime. However, the JRF eligibility certificate is valid for three years.
